Los Angeles - Dr Conrad Murray should get a lenient sentence in relation to Michael Jackson's death because he has never drunk alcohol or smoked, according to his mother.
The physician is set to be sentenced today on Tuesday after being found guilty earlier this month of the involuntary manslaughter of the Thriller hitmaker from an overdose of propofol in July 2009, and his mother Milta Rush has sent a letter to Judge Michael Pastor asking him to give her son mercy because he is learning the "toughest lesson of his life".
She said: "He is referred to as a gentlemen by all who know him. He never drank alcohol, took drugs or smoked cigarettes in his life. He and I have always had a close relationship as mother and son and there is that special bond with him being my first born.
"This is the first time he is facing such an ordeal. Nothing like this has ever happened to him before.
"He is saddened and remorseful about the death of his friend Michael Jackson and I do believe he is certainly learning the toughest lesson of his life."
Four year sentence
Milta added she was "humbly begging" for compassion because he was sorry for the pop star's death.
She told TMZ.com: "Conrad is my son and as a mother I must say I know him inside out. He is sorry for what happened to Michael and had no ill intent towards him. I humbly beg for your heart felt consideration of everything I have said about Conrad, and ask for your compassion and leniency in giving him probation or community service."
Despite her request, the Jackson family's close friend Reverend Al Sharpton has revealed he is hoping for the maximum four year sentence.
He said: "I hope he gets the maximum and more. Anything short of the maximum would send the wrong message to people who are willing to exploit the medical profession for personal greed and gain."
