David Bowie leads Q Awards nominations

Los Angeles - David Bowie leads nominations for the 2013 Q Awards, with six nods.

The iconic singer made a surprise comeback in January when he released single Where Are We Now, followed it with his first album in ten years, The Next Day, in March.

David - whose nominations include Best Track, Best Solo Artist and Best Video - is followed in the rankings by Arctic Monkeys, Foals and Daft Punk, who each have three nominations.

Ellie Goulding is next with two nominations, Best Solo Artist and Best Track for her recent UK number one single Burn.

'Unforgettable year for music'

She said: "It means so much to be nominated for a Q award, I have read and loved Q Magazine for as long as I can remember. It's an honour to be nominated in these categories with these nominees."

One of the most hotly contested categories is Best New Act, which sees Jake Bugg pitted against Disclosure, Palma Violets, Laura Mvula, TOY and Tom Odell.

Q magazine Senior Editor Matt Mason said: "It's been another unforgettable year for music, and the nominations reflect the breadth and brilliance of artists from the UK and beyond. The return of David Bowie proved that, even in the digital age, pop stars retain the ability to completely amaze and surprise us, while the phenomenal success of Daft Punk showed that you can still reach right across the globe with one great song.

"With Glastonbury back on the calendar, we've also enjoyed a summer of outstanding live performances. All the Q Awards nominees have helped ensure that 2013 has been an incredible year for music."
