Die Antwoord's US tour sold out

Cape Town - Tickets for all Die Antwoord's performances in the US are sold out, according to band member Ninja.

This statement was also confirmed by a spokesperson for Universal Music in America.

On the band's official Facebook page fans are complaining that some people bought many tickets at once and sold them for higher prices.

A week after the release of their new CD, Ten$ion, the album has reached No 143 on the Billboard Top 200.

Ninja, Yo-Landi Vi$$er and DJ Hi-Tek also had to get bodyguards for their Harden da Fuck Up tour in America to protect them against obsessive fans.

Vi$$er apparently has to deal with awkward advances from her male fans. When asked how she handles it, she said in an e-mail: "I knock their teeth out with the microphone. I've done it four times already."

Celebrities

As far as Ninja is concerned, he says "there are always women trying to pull down my Dark Side of the Moon-briefs if I get too close to the front of the stage".

Despite requests from fans for additional shows, The Antwoord won't be able to provide them. "Most of the time we play a show every night in a new state every time," said Vi$$er.

"On our off days we get heavy pro extreme sports massages, or we just hang in our larney hotels, or in our bus and play video games."

It's an impressive tour bus, says Ninja. "It is bigger than our house. It has X-Box, flat screen TV, free booze, a hot tub and a hot Oriental onboard masseuse, called Chiyo Chan."

Since the start of their tour articles about The Antwoord have appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and Washington Post.

According to Ninja and Vi$$er, celebrities like Danny de Vito, Snoop Dogg, Pamela Anderson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt have indicated that they're big fans of the group's music and videos.

After their American tour Die Antwoord will be touring Australia.

nice! cool to see SA act going this big.

  • Graeme - 2012-02-21 12:12

Of course they need bodyguards to protect them from obsessive fans, can you imagine how insane you'd have to be if you're a fan?

      Fred - 2012-02-21 15:06

You don't have to like their music to give them credit for having sold out shows.

      Poener - 2012-02-21 21:03

I saw them live in New York, and my "usually-rather-normal" wife tried to jump a fence to see them backstage. The power of the Zeff makes one do strange things... :)

      Stefanus - 2012-02-22 07:29

insane is the new cool...get wif it

  • rulinda.engel - 2012-02-21 12:33

  • Natasha - 2012-02-21 13:57

Can someone please explain to me what makes their music so popular?? "You kinda Freaky and I hate you allot" is what I think of them. Sorry if I offended anyone....

      richard.hipkin - 2012-02-21 14:04

No sweat Natasha, it's the same question I ask of people who listen to dubstep. But hey, it obviously appeals to them so, hey, who am I to judge them right?

      Natasha - 2012-02-21 14:11

I just do not understand what is enjoyable about their music, or no correction some of the lyrics and the weird music videos that goes along with it??? Looking at them makes me feel sick, yes I agree and do not judge others, just trying to understand why people enjoy their music... Not a fan of Dubstep either ;-)

      richard.hipkin - 2012-02-21 14:21

I think it appeals to people who don't give a f$^k about "normal"... I don't know, my wife LOVES them whereas I can barely tolerate them :) But then my wife always pulls the middle finger at normal :)

      Hugh - 2012-02-21 14:25

Why be normal? Doesn't sell records

      Natasha - 2012-02-21 14:28

Hehe thumbs up for your wife!!!! Suppose normal has left us ages ago :-)

      Stefanus - 2012-02-22 07:27

I don't blame you for not noticing, they are intentionally trying to look ridiculous they know people are too stupid to know what they are about and they are having the last laugh

  • Jannie - 2012-02-21 15:19

Of course their shows will be sold out...the venues they perform at only accommodate about ten people!

  • Casey - 2012-02-21 15:46

I think its def a huge act from thier side... you cant be this popular and poor as hell... no no no... But good for them... they kicking ass.

      Stefanus - 2012-02-22 07:30

of course its an act Casey

  • Jacob - 2012-02-21 15:56

Congrats to them, but personaly i think their music is awful. Just goes to show how screwed up the world really is that can like this!

      Stefanus - 2012-02-22 08:49

its not "awfull", its NEXT LEVEL!! get yo facts strait mudder

  • derrick.vanniekerk - 2012-02-21 20:19

I don't like their "product" at all, but they have mastered their product and do it to perfection. love it or hate it (I hate it) they have worked hard and deserve the success

  • Poener - 2012-02-21 21:00

I saw them live in New York last year, when they performed with MIA. All the yanks were singing along about their mum's goodies in 'n vispaste jar!!!

      TaniaSandraSteyn - 2012-02-21 21:26

Hey! Their lyrics push the envelope...that's why I love their music. I have to catch myself not humming along amongst civilized peeps.

  • Michele - 2012-02-23 12:56

    Good on them!

  • Forsythe - 2012-02-23 13:36
