Ecstasy cocktail killed Amy - reports

2011-07-24 22:26
London - Amy Winehouse is believed to have died from a mix of ecstasy and alcohol.

Winehouse died at her home in North London on Saturday. Although police have said it would be "inappropriate" to speculate what caused her death before the post-mortem is carried out on Monday, friends believe a "dodgy" ecstasy tablet killed her.

A pal told the Sunday Mirror: "She has spent the last seven days on a massive bender and people were saying she's going to drink herself to death.

"It was an ecstasy overdose. She could do cocaine until the cows come home. But this was obviously a dodgy pill."

Confirmed by policeman

MTV producer Danny Panthaki claimed his friend's boyfriend was one of the first policemen at the scene and backed up the overdose story saying: "My friend's boyfriend is a policeman and he's the one who found Amy Winehouse dead. Overdosed on ecstasy."

Although police and ambulances reported to the scene within five minutes of the emergency call being made, the 27-year-old singer was dead when they arrived.

Superintendent Raj Kohli, of London's Metropolitan Police said: "No post mortem has taken place and it would be inappropriate to speculate on a cause of death.

"On arrival, officers found the body of a 27-year-old woman who was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been informed, and we can confirm it was Amy Winehouse.

"The death of any person is a sad time for friends and family, especially in the case of a person such as Amy Winehouse, who was known both nationally and internationally".

"It was an ecstasy overdose. She could do cocaine until the cows come home. But this was obviously a dodgy pill." to quote Wikipedia: [citation needed] Or is this speculation pulled out of someone's ass?

      Pickle - 2011-07-24 23:44

Could have also been GHB, a liquid and very potent form of ecstasy, used in the old days to do surgery on ppl.

      john - 2011-07-24 23:49

Read the article, dude. The TV producer pulled it out of his friend's boyfriend's arse. Details on what other items may have been extracted are sketchy at this point. However, word has it that the friend is none too pleased about it and that SOMEONE will be sleeping on the couch for the foreseeable future.

      Agnostic - 2011-07-25 09:11

@pickle..GHB is not ecstacy. It provides a very mild intoxication that mimic ecstacy if taken without alochol. GHB taken with alocohol is extremely dangerous and can kill you. It is also used as a date rape drug. Ecstacy is MDMA. Even taken in extremely large amounts is very unlikely to kill you, unless you have some kind of alregic reaction to it. FYI.

      IceMan - 2011-07-25 09:24

whino is dead, how she died wont make a difference - she is dead .

      DEVILS SON - 2011-07-25 09:34

xtc is an amphetamine, overdose is difficult, look for another culprit in the mix besides the booze too

      Creeky - 2011-07-25 09:42

Either way... she died VERY HAPPY! LOL!

      frangelico - 2011-07-25 11:12

@Steedman,whatever the cause it's sad & tragic for someone so young to die because of the sick people who deal in all the different life takers, now you might argue no one put a gun to her head to take them once you're hooked there is no looking back,I feel very sorry for her family,my deepest sympathy to you all,my she now rest in peace free of the demons that plagued her.Personaly I was not a fan but I feel for you

      Joe Blow - 2011-07-25 12:04

Start of the article with police say that you shouldn't speculate, continue with a friend's speculation and then title the article as "Ecstasy cocktail killed Amy" - which indicates fact. Though no facts about the cause of death have been released. Nice way to get people to read the article, bad reporting.

      Mr.Migs - 2011-07-25 12:05

"But this was obviously a dodgy pill."....Ahhhhhh the 1st one or the 50th one??? :-) MDMA is usually only fatal when people dont take care of themselves while on it. Drinking the correct amount of water/Energade and maintaining the salt levels/electrolytes in the body will make it alot less likely to die from the main causes of death which is Hyperthermia and Water Intoxication! I think there has been only a hand full of cases where people have died from an allergic reaction.

  • Vuzi - 2011-07-25 01:13

Well, at least she died doing what she loved, drugs.

      Dan - 2011-07-25 05:43

Actually very true Vuzi. She finally received what she was looking for.

  • Captainmorgan - 2011-07-25 05:38

Totally OUTRAGEOUS for anybody to have alluded to this situation before now , I mean really , what were the chances??

  • Dan - 2011-07-25 05:41

She was scum and a poor role model for any person - even Julius Malema. If you play with drugs and die, so be it - no sympathy at all. It is like driving 200km/h on purpose in a wall and testing the odds of surviving. I feel for her family, but why didn't anyone help her to keep on the straight and narrow.

      Grayman - 2011-07-25 07:06

They tried to take her to re-hab and she said "No, no no"! It is ironic that the song that made her famous is the one that best describes her life!

      Flarkit - 2011-07-25 07:36

Let's show a little respect for the family's loss please.

      Dan - 2011-07-25 08:51

@ Flarkit. I feel for the family, but this report is not about the family. Wonder how many young girls took her on as a role model? Maybe we should feel sorry for their families in stead.

      Snoopy88 - 2011-07-25 08:58

From all accounts it seemed they really tried. Problem is when you have money and a problem.. a certain lowlife type of dealer will come looking for you. And she was arrogant, she didn't think she had a problem.

      O-Kay - 2011-07-25 10:38

Dan, if you have never in your life done anything stupid, then you have the right to this comment. G-d forbid anyone close to you has an addictive personality. Where is your humanity?

      Daemos1 - 2011-07-25 11:05

I feel for your family because they probably have to live with your crap everyday, show some humanity.

      ir8m8 - 2011-07-25 14:46

100% agree, she made a choice. am glad my kids did not like her music at all.

  • FiveAssedMonkey - 2011-07-25 06:18

"It was an ecstasy overdose. She could do cocaine until the cows come home. But this was obviously a dodgy pill." If this quote comes from one her idiot friends, then it's no wonder she had the attitude she did.

  • Susannomore - 2011-07-25 06:54

Lets just wait until the postmortem is concluded. She was a disaster waiting to happen, this we know. But all these stories mean nothing right now.

  • fotre - 2011-07-25 07:09

Amy Whinehouse, Kurt Cobain, Jimmi Hendrix, Ian Curtis, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin all died at 27 years of age. Justin Bieber turns 27 in 2021. Just be patient...

      Hazy - 2011-07-25 12:18

That's ugly fotre, real ugly. why do u bring justin bieber to this. Is he using drugs? You are not God, remember? No one knew that Amy would die at 27 as much as you dont know when Justine Bieber would die. It could be you. Sies on you...I hope you die in the next 27 minutes

      ir8m8 - 2011-07-25 14:49

how is this sad...did you actually ever listen to her music, the lyrics were k@K, seriously, my dog could sing better than her!, then everyone wants to put her up as a fantastic artist...yeah if your sniffing the same sh1te she was...

  • Engeltjie - 2011-07-25 07:39

Sad to see a young adult die...but this was caused mainly by her own stupidity. She should have known that this was bound to happen, sooner or later. May this be a lesson to Loco Lindsay and everyone else!

      Samuel - 2011-07-25 16:38

Obviously you dont understand addiction. Shame on you. Even the most clever people walked down that road before.

  • ShakaN - 2011-07-25 07:45

  • GinSA1 - 2011-07-25 08:44

Has anybody thought she might have WANTED to die?

      Mouse - 2011-07-25 08:59

Who the hell WANTS to die ? You have to be in a bad way to WANT to die. But then again, she was in a bad way. Piece of trash and a BAD role model to young kids. Disgusting behaviour to say the least. She does not deserve the publicity. I just hope other young girls dont think this is cool behaviour. Absolute scum.

      GinSA1 - 2011-07-25 09:04

People in bad spaces in their lives often don't see another way out, and then off themselves. Of course you're right Mouse, one would have to be in a very bad way. Amy wasn't exactly in a good place huh? Watching the last performance of hers, when she was unable to sing a note, barely able to move, the humiliation of that in a 'sober' moment - there must have been a few.................

  • Nkalakatha - 2011-07-25 08:56

RIP Amy. You had a lovely voice and you will be dearly missed. Sad that you had no control over yourself and that drugs and booze were the final straw !!

  • DEVILS SON - 2011-07-25 09:33

combination of yrs of partying hard, pills, booze and malnutrition and dehydration, or someone played a justin bieber album

  • LilGhettoBoy - 2011-07-25 09:33

Gonna miss your music Amy. This is so said really. You were a great artist and had a unique voice and style.

  • Mouse - 2011-07-25 09:42

To GINSA1 - Dont get me wrong - she had a fantastic powerful voice. Brilliant. Just drugs are not the way to go. I still think she was a bad role model for younger kids. Pity it was not the voice in another body - someone who did not do drugs.

      DEVILS SON - 2011-07-25 12:14

ITS ALSO A LESSON IN DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER

  • MandyDbn - 2011-07-25 11:09

Who gives a toss...she was a walking timebomb waiting to die, if she was too stupid to know that drugs kill then so be it!

  • pommie-abroad - 2011-07-25 11:16

Funny how the Brit tabloids lambast her all the time, call her Amy Wino etc, but when she snuffs it they're all contrite and praising her. Truth of the matter is, she was a right pain in the ass and the British public were sick of her antic's, Yes she had talent , but much like Jim Morrison in his last days she became an embarrassment and pathetic little figure...some people just don't know how lucky they really are...idiot of biblical proportions.....end of.

Tragic actually - however there was no way Amy would have made old bones. Hope the ex doesn't try to cash in on the whole affair.
