Cape Town - Tamara Dey is branching out from her "flagship" project Flash Republic to work on a solo project.
Tamara spoke to Channel24 at the recent launch of e.tv's new documentary series The Close Up, in which she's featured.
"I'm in the process of conceptualising a solo project. I haven't done a solo project in about six years; it's been a long time coming," said the singer.
As to the sound and feel of her new project, Tamara is still undecided, saying: "It'll be completely different, probably not what people expect, but I can't actually put it in any kind of box right now.
"I don't know how its going to turn out but I know it's going to be quite a defining moment in my career."
As part of the solo project she hopes to do a folk ballad with George van der Spuy from Taxi Violence.
Flash Republic will be returning to the studio to work on the next album at the end of 2011 and Tamara remains committed to the band, calling it "my flagship thing, my baby".
Flash Republic will perform in the Channel24 Music Coffee Break series live in Cape Town on September 9.
