Foo Fighters preview new album

London - The Foo Fighters treated fans to a sneak preview of their new record at the NME Awards Big Gig at Wembley Arena in London on Friday.

The rockers are preparing to release their seventh studio album, Wasting Light - the follow up to 2007’s Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace - on April 11 and at what frontman Dave Grohl called their "first official show in about two years", the group introduced revellers to fresh material including These Days and new single Rope.

However Foo Fighters -who played the Wembley show as part of American Express' Preferred Seating programme - also catered for their long-time fans, playing an extensive selection of their back catalogue including Pretender, All My Life and My Hero.

Greeting the crowd, singer and guitarist Dave said: "You do realise this is our first official show in about two years? Well it's nice to be able to say we're back.

"A couple of years ago we played an epic gig in Milton Keynes, I think it was about three hours long but tonight we're only going to play the good stuff. We've been around for 16 years, we've got a lot of songs and not a lot of fucking time."

After an energetic set, the group - which also includes guitarists Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear, bassist Nate Mendel and drummer Taylor Hawkins - closed the show with Skin And Bones, This Is A Call and Best Of You.

Earlier main support act Cee Lo Green played his smash hit Fuck You along with Gnarls Barkley classics Crazy and Smiley Faces before putting his own stamp on Lou Green's Perfect Day.

No Age, Band of Horses and DJ Zane Lowe completed the line-up.
