Cape Town – Idols season 1 contestant Chad Saaiman has been shot during an attempted hijacking in Johannesburg on Sunday.
The news was confirmed by his brother Lee Saaiman in an interview with Bush Radio.
"Chad drove away when he was pulled over by hijackers and then they shot at him, he managed to get to a nearby house where he later collapsed," Lee told Bush Radio.
According to reports, Saaiman has been admitted to ICU and is in a critical condition.
Saaiman, who has been nominated for a SAMA, recently moved to Johannesburg.
Support from fans have been streaming in on Twitter and on the singer's Facebook page.
