Free Pretoria concert to be held for Mandela

Johannesburg - A free concert incorporating song, dance, and storytelling will be held at the State Theatre in Pretoria to honour the life of former president Nelson Mandela, its artistic directors said on Monday.

"Every performance will focus on capturing the current mood of the people, which is reflective, celebratory, honouring and humanising," co-artistic director of the event Sibongile Khumalo said in a statement.

Her co-director for the concert, to be held on Wednesday, is Aubrey Sekhabi.

The show would include actor Jerry Mofokeng introducing the story of Mandela and his origins. Also on the bill would be performances by Sipho Mabuse, Gcina Mhlophe, Simphiwe Dana, the Vuyani Dance Theatre, and Mak Manaka, among others.

Interspersed between these performances would be excerpts from the play The Rivonia Trial.

The concert would start at 19:30 on Wednesday and "will continue well into the night".

Seating would be on a first come, first served basis.
