Gallagher apologises for Faithless concert

Cape Town - The Gallagher Convention Centre has released a statement in response to Faithless fans’ complaints regarding the organisation of the concert in Johannesburg.

According to Channel24, social network pages were ablaze with scorn and vitriol over the weekend as Faithless concert-goers spared no feelings in venting their anger at promoter Real Concerts.

According to complaints, several fans missed large parts of the Johannesburg show due to ticketing issues, while others complained that the headline act played too short a set and that the venue was overbooked.

Struggled to cope

In response to this, CEO of Gallagher Convention Centre Mr Adolf Venter said that Gallagher has "an excellent reputation" and that "our staff are well equipped and experienced to manage many types of events".

According to Venter, the venue was only informed at 16:00 the day before the concert that 3 000 extra tickets had been sold.

Venter also added that the security, which was employed by the organiser Real Concerts, were not prepared for the increase in the number of people and as result struggled to cope. This in turn resulted in Gallagher requesting another gate to be opened to allow a free flow of guests.

Fans also complained that the bar service was slow and according to Venter "the technical delays in the concert venue had a 'roll on' effect in said terms of delays thereafter".

Sincere apologies

"The first group of guests directed to the bar and catering area had rather a long delay until the commencement of the show and this became a further issue when the second group of guests were then also allowed entrance into this venue, which consequently led to the bars in the venue being overwhelmed and slowing the rate of service," said Venter.

Venter also commented on the fact that the air conditioning was switched off saying: "GCC were instructed to refrain from turning on the cooling system during the performance as this would interfere with the production of the show and as a consequence, discomfort was unfortunately created for the guests.

"Gallagher Convention Centre prides itself on its service levels and are passionate about giving clients an awesome experience. We would like to extend our sincere apologies to all of the guests who attended the Faithless Concert for any inconvenience they experienced," said Venter.
