Grammys announce early 2014 show

Los Angeles - Next year's Grammys show will be held on 26 January 2014, earlier than usual because of the Winter Olympics in February, organisers of the music industry awards said on Monday.

The move is in line with other awards shows which have shifted dates to avoid clashing with the 6-23 February Games in Sochi, Russia.

Organisers are keen to avoid competing for TV viewers. Grammy show ratings have consistently grown in recent years, with some 28.3 million viewers tuning in last year, the second largest since 1993.

In 2015, music's biggest night will return to the more typical 8 February timeframe, Grammys organisers the Recording Academy noted.

Oscars organisers announced in March that the 2014 show will be held on 2 March. The Academy Awards are typically held the last week in February.

In 2015 the Oscars will be held on 22 February, back in its more traditional slot.
