Cape Town – Die Heuwels Fantasties are the first Afrikaans rock group to have an album at the top of the official South African Top 20 chart list.
The group's latest album Wilder as die Wildtuin is currently the best selling CD in South Africa.
English Rock bands and Afrikaans rock and pop singers such as Kurt Darren and Nicholas Louw have held the top spots on the Top 20 list, but this is the first time an Afrikaans rock group has made it to the top according to Therisa Francis, head of the record library at the SABC.
"Afrikaans rock groups normally don't sell quite as well, but Die Heuwels Fantasties are exceptionally popular."
The group managed to beat out various international artists, including Avril lavigne (number 4), Roxette (number 13) and Justin Bieber (number 20).
