Idols winner to sing at Monaco wedding

Durban – Jason Hartman, the winner of Idols in 2009, has been invited to perform at the wedding of Prince Albert of Monaco and the South African swimmer Charlene Wittstock.

"I am jumping for joy," said Hartman on Sunday.

He is a good friend of Wittstock's and also received an invitation to the royal wedding.

"It is a very big honour. I have already received my suit, designed by Diaan Daniels, and am very excited. We are flying this week and will stay in Monaco for the next seven weeks."

Large screens

After the date for the wedding was moved twice, the bride and groom finally decided on July 1 and 2, reported cityoutmonaco.com. The civil ceremony will take place on July 1 at 17:00 in the throne room of the Grimaldi Palace in Monaco.

The prince's movie star mother, Grace Kelly and his father, Prince Rainier married in the cathedral of Monaco.

Albert and Wittstock will not follow this tradition and the religious ceremony will take place outside, in the Grimaldi Palace’s courtyard.

About 3 500 guests have been invited to the event, which will be broadcast on large screens.

'Loads of fun'

Both days were declared public holidays in Monaco.

Hartman will open the gala event for the group The Eagles, with his guitar-playing dad Sam and his brother Scott on drums.

The Hartmans will also perform on May 27 at the Grand Prix in Monaco.

The concert will be broadcast live on Radio Monaco.

"It is an excellent opportunity to launch my new album which will come out at the end of the year," said Hartman. "The residents of Monaco enjoy music concerts and I expect that we will have loads of fun."
