Johannesburg - Musician Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye has financial problems and may not be able to keep his current defence lawyer, the Protea Magistrate's Court heard on Monday.
"My client has picked up a financial problem," his lawyer Ike Motloung said.
"I cannot proceed under these circumstances, without payment. I warned my client that if it persists I will withdraw."
Maarohanye expected to know what was going on with his finances by Wednesday, said Motloung.
"You know how it goes with these cases. If payment hasn't happened then it probably won't," he said.
Maarohanye and co-accused Themba Tshabalala face charges of murder, attempted murder and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
The two were allegedly drag-racing when one of their Mini Coopers ploughed into a group of schoolchildren on Mdlalose Street, in Protea North.
Four boys were killed. Two others suffered severe injuries, including brain damage.
The case was postponed to October 10.
