Oudtshoorn - Thousands of Oudtshoorn residents stood in queues at five different places on Monday to receive free tickets to attend the popular Rivierbuurt (River neighbourhood) during this year's Absa KKNK (Klein Karoo National Arts Festival).
These free tickets give people access to the Rivierbuurt which includes the flea market, Die Huisgenoot se Musiekplaas (Huisgenoot's music farm), Die Burger stage, the MK stage and the Kuiertuin.
"Altogether 22 500 tickets were released for all residents for the Rivierbuurt ," said JC Aucamp, marketing and communication coordinator for KKNK.
Additional tickets will be for sale during the festival, with 2 500 daily tickets and 5 000 tickets for the last day being made available.
People were already waiting from 06:00 at the De Jager sports complex for tickets that were only available from 08:00.
"We are very thankful for the free tickets," said Leentjie Booysen, who lives on a farm outside Oudtshoorn.
The 17th Absa KKNK takes place from 2-9 April in Oudsthoorn.
