Die Heuwels Fantasties has played at several major festivals and won notable awards in South Africa for their music and music videos.  Highlights include the South African Music Award for Best Alternative Afrikaans Album in 2010 and the MK Award for Best Group in 2011. It was also recently announced that the group has joined the Springboks as Arts Ambassadors at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

Johannesburg based trio Shadowclub are known for their bluesy rock style. Their most recent performance on 5FM’s (Live) 5 hosted by Catherine Grenfell at the SABC took place this past weekend to a live audience.

'Key objective'

The Black Hotels, known for singles such as Natalie and Beautiful Mornings recorded their first full-length album Films for the Next Century in 2009. The album was released in May 2009 and was nominated for a South African Music Award for Best Alternative Album. The Star Tonight named it Album of the Year and The Sunday Times included it in its Top 10 Albums of The Year.  Three of their tracks have made their way onto the 5FM playlist.

Speaking on the bands that have been selected 5FM Station Manager Aisha Mohamed said: "Bringing international artists to South Africa has always been a key objective for 5FM.

"Not only because we try to deliver the best live performances from Top 40 artists but because it provides a valuable opportunity for local bands to perform to large audiences in concert venues."
