Cape Town - The South African leg of the Ed Kowalczyk Throwing Copper unplugged tour has sold out in under 48 hours, organisers said on Monday.
Music fans in Johannesburg and Cape Town rushed to snap up tickets as they hit the market on Friday 12 June. The first Cape Town show sold out in an unbelievable 15 minutes. A second Cape Town show was immediately added. It has, along with the Johannesburg concert, sold in lightning quick succession. All three concerts are now sold out.
Throwing Copper was a groundbreaking rock album released in 1994 by the American alternative rock band Live. The former lead singer, Ed Kowalczyk, is currently touring the world to mark the 20th anniversary of the album, playing all 14 songs in track order from beginning to end, unplugged.
AMP Events Director and music promotor Andy Mac says: "I had no doubt this tour would sell out in the three and a half months between launch and the first show. But to sell out 3 shows in 48 hrs in this financial climate is truly remarkable. It’s testimony to what a very special place Throwing Copper holds in the hearts and minds of South African music lovers."
