Cape Town - Afrikaans alternative-pop sensation Die Heuwels Fantasties have been invited by the Department of Arts and Culture to act as Arts Ambassadors for the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

They will jet off to New Zealand on Tuesday to join the Bokke at all of their pre-events and press functions. They will also do a few shows and attend a signing session with the Bokke while they are there.

"It is unbelievable. It almost feels as if we were chosen for the team, haha!  It is an honour to represent our country and to support the Bokke AND we have never been to New Zealand! Green and Gold!" says Heuwels band member Hunter Kennedy.

It has also been revealed that the group's second album, Wilder as die Wildtuin, has reached gold status in album sales; just under six months after its release. Their first album Die Heuwels Fantasties released in 2009 also attained gold status.

Die Heuwels Fantasties made history in the South African music industry with their second album when they became the first Afrikaans rock group to reach No 1 on SABC's Top 20 top seller chart. This chart has been going for forty years.
