Lulu Dikana's family release statement following her sudden death

Cape Town - Lulu Dikana’s family released a statement on Thursday following her sudden death.

The statement was released via her record label, Sony Music, and read as follows:

"It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected and tragic loss of soul songstress Lulu Dikana who passed away last night after a short illness while being treated in hospital.  Our deepest condolences go out to her family, friends and all her fans who came to know and love her through her music.

"Funeral details will be made available as soon as these have been finalised."

According to reports Lulu Dikana died on Wednesday night following a short illness. Tributes have since been pouring in for the singer, who recently released a new album, I Came to Love, and opened for John Legend on the Johannesburg leg of his All of Me tour.

Lulu is the sister of X Factor judge and singer Zonke Dikana.
