MTV VMA nominees announced

Los Angeles - Katy Perry leads the nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), scoring nods in nine categories.

Her collaboration with Kanye West, E.T, is up for four awards, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Special Effects.

On hearing the news, Katy was convinced there had been a mistake.

She said: "Nine? I thought that was a typo or something! Oh my God, really? That's the most nominations I've ever gotten for anything."

Fans can vote at the MTV US site.

The ceremony takes place on August 28.
