Suzanne Vega
Johannesburg - Suzanne Vega, known for her hit singles Luka and Tom's Diner, will be performing in Johannesburg and Cape Town in November.

Vega is a folk singer from the 80s and 90s and helped cement the prominence of singer-songwriters in the music industry. Her 1987 album Solitude Standing, from which Luka came from, shot her to fame and led to seven studio albums so far.

The songwriter is also known for having the first song, Tom's Diner, to be compressed to MP3. The creator of the sound compression algorithm heard the song on the radio and thought the a cappella track would serve as a challenge. The song has also been famously covered by many artists, which led to a compilation album called Tom's Album.
