Naked suicide at Roskilde marrs festival

Roskilde, Denmark  - A 35-year-old German woman may have jumped voluntarily to her death at Denmark's Roskilde rock festival at the weekend, police said on Monday.

The 35-year-old from the Berlin area had jumped "quite evidently out of her own free will," from a 30-metre high tower for an elevated railway, said police spokesman Carsten Andersen. She died instantly.

"Witnesses consistently described how the woman climbed over a barrier and then jumped," Andersen added. The woman was not wearing clothes.

Officials will carry out an autopsy to establish whether the woman was acting under the influence of drugs or alcohol. There were no indications of foul play, police said.

Organisers of the festival west of Copenhagen said there was no breach of security regulations. Visitors had to pass three controls before accessing the elevated railway, and anybody who appeared to be under the influence of drugs was denied access.

One other person suffered mild injuries as a result of the woman's fall on Sunday, the final day of Roskilde.

Thousands of Germans were among the 75 000 concert-goers who attended the annual festival. In the 2000 event, nine young men died after being crushed near the stage where Pearl Jam was playing.
