Johannesburg - History. Unity. Victory - With these words, the Springbok rugby team's supporters are urged to count down the 100 days from today until the World Cup starts in New Zealand.
An official song for the South African Rugby Union (Saru)'s Unite 2011 campaign, was launched on Tuesday and will be released nationwide on Wednesday.
Artists Freshlyground and Goldfish have been charged with producing the patriotic tune. The song, entitled Let’s Do It Again emphasises the power inherent in a nation's history and unity and how this patriotic spirit can facilitate the Springboks attempt at securing their third World Cup win.
The song will be played on broadcasting media in South Africa as of next month.
World cup memories
Freshlyground also teamed up with the award-winning singer Shakira last year for the song Waka Waka for the World Cup in South Africa.
"We hope the song will be the soundtrack for national mobilisation in support of the Springboks," said Jurie Roux, CEO of SARU.
"It is one among many initiatives that we are launching to give fans the chance to express their enthusiasm for the Springboks."
Like Fridays during the football tournament, Fridays will be known as Bok day up to Rugby World Cup. Supporters are encouraged to wear their Springbok clothes on Fridays and on days leading up to the World Cup in which the Springboks will be playing.
Saru will also make use of social networks like Facebook and Twitter to encourage support for the team. A target of a million supporters was made by SARU for the Springboks Facebook page
