No Metro FM Awards this year

Johannesburg - The public broadcaster has again changed the social calendar, this time by shifting the highly anticipated Metro FM Music Awards.

The SABC announced during a press conference at its headquarters in Johannesburg on Thursday that the event would instead be held in February next year.

SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said the awards were undergoing a major makeover.

Announcement party

"We believe repositioning the awards is a good business decision. We also recognise the fact that there are many other awards ceremonies that are held around the same period in the country.

"These might not all be necessarily music awards but they are still award ceremonies of national interest," he said.

The station has said that it will host an announcement party where they will reveal the new sponsors, host city and municipality, the exact date of the awards and the new venue.

Kganyago refused to name the host city, saying: "I am aware that there are rumours about Durban but all will be revealed at the announcement event."
