Norah Jones set to perform at the Oscars

Los Angeles - Norah Jones will perform at the Oscars.

The Don't Know Why hitmaker is set to sing her Oscar-nominated track Everybody Needs a Best Friend from Seth MacFarlane's hit comedy Ted at the 85th annual Academy Awards ceremony on 24 February.

The 33-year-old soul singer said in a statement: "I had such a great time recording this song with Seth, and was thrilled to find out that it was nominated for an Oscar.

"Getting to perform it at such a prestigious event, which my friend is hosting, is a once in a lifetime opportunity."

Adele also set to perform

The song boasts music by Walter Murphy and lyrics by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane - who will be hosting the ceremony this year - and the occasion will mark the first time Norah performs at the Oscars.

Telecast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron added: "We are happy to have Norah Jones perform Seth's and Walter Murphy's nominated song on our Oscar telecast.

"We are big admirers of Norah's singing and she will help celebrate the unique circumstance of having an Oscar host who is also nominated for Best Original Song."

Norah is expected to take to the stage alongside Adele, who is also up for the Original Song prize with her acclaimed James Bond theme tune Skyfall.
