Los Angeles - One Direction were protected with "military precision" during their recent show in Colombia.

The superstar boy band kicked off their Where We Are world tour in South America on Friday  and it is said they were given a huge entourage of guards and police to ensure their safety while they performed in an area known for being a kidnapping hot spot.

An insider told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "No risks are being taken. The dangers in some of these countries are very real and that's why management have arranged the world's best security teams.

"There will be no wandering into the city for partying or sightseeing anywhere deemed dangerous - and Colombia is definitely dangerous."

The Story of My Life group were escorted to and from El Campin stadium by police with a convoy of security vehicles and a team of more than 200 guards at the stadium.

However, the band - made up of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik - have insisted they are "having a ball" being back on tour.

Naill told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "We're really close as a band. It was lovely to have time off, but now it's great to be back together and on the road. We're having a ball."

Meanwhile, he also shot down rumours the quintet could be heading for a split, insisting they'll stay together "as long as the fans" care about them.

He added: "The fact we have an album coming should put these rumours to bed. We're here for as long as the fans want us."
