Police cancel Bryan Adams concert

New Delhi - A Bryan Adams concert in India's capital has been cancelled hours before the Canadian rocker was to take the stage, with police reportedly concerned about the overcrowded venue.

New Delhi police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat says police informed concert organisers that they would not be allowed to stage Tuesday night's show.

Bhagat did not give further details. However, the Indian Express newspaper reported that organisers sold 10 000 tickets for a venue that has a capacity of 6 000, causing police to become concerned about the safety of concertgoers.

The concert's organisers said they would try to reschedule the show at another venue.

Adams is visiting India, Bangladesh and Nepal on his current tour.
