Cape Town – The police have allegedly ordered popular Cape Town restaurant Brass Bell to stop hosting live music events, reports Rollingstone.co.za.
According to the report on the music magazine's site, the venue's booking agent Alex Wise sent a letter out to supporters and musicians stating the reasons for the shut-down.
"We had the SAPS come over to the venue on Wednesday and tell us that we have to stop all full live music moving forward, with the exception of having 2-man acoustic bands with no drums or amplification.
"The main issue has been disturbances caused by intoxicated people leaving the venue and karaoke night every Tuesday. Bottom line, the actual live music isn't the issue, which is really frustrating," said Wise.
Brass Bell's Daen Smith told Channel24 that due to a noise complaint that the restaurant received, they will still be hosting musicians, but for acoustic performances only.
The restaurant has been running in Kalk Bay for 31 years and according to Smith, live music is a large part of their offering.
