Cape Town – Organisers of Ramfest have confirmed that the annual rock festival will be held as a one day event in 2012.

Organisers of one of Cape Town's biggest rock festivals posted a note on their Facebook page saying: "There has been much speculation and rumours going around about RAMfest CPT changing to a 1 day event. This is true..."

Multiple reasons are offered to fans that might be disgruntled by the decision to make the fest a one-day event, rather than the full weekend affair it has been for the past five years.

However, it is noted that the decision does not necessarily mean that Ramfest will be held as a one-day event indefinitely.

Reasons

Ramfest has rapidly expanded during the years since its inception and now tours to five South African cities. Organisers hope that the one-day event model will help them "grow these cities to full 1 day events with top class international acts in every city in the future".

Other reasons behind the change include the fact that ticket prices will be cheaper and that the cost cutting will leave more budget to acquire sought-after international acts.

Metal band In Flames have already been confirmed to perform at the festival.

The festival will also be held at a new venue near the Mother City; The Cape Town Ostrich Ranch.

Organisers note that the new plan takes its queue from world famous international one-day festivals such as Big Day Out and Soundwave in Australia.

RAMfest tour schedule:

Port Elizabeth: 2 March 2012

Bloemfontein: 3 March 2012

Durban: 9 March 2012

Johannesburg: 10 March 2012

Cape Town: 11 March 2012
