Rick Ross joins Lil Wayne on SA tour

Johannesburg - Hip-hop heavyweight Rick Ross will be joining Lil Wayne aka Weezy F Baby as the support act for the Johannesburg leg of his I Am Still Music Tour, Channel O and promoters Canoc Productions announced on Thursday.

They also revealed that due to an unprecedented demand for tickets for the Lil Wayne shows in South Africa, an additional 2 000 tickets were made available for the show at the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg on Friday December 9 2011.

Lil Wayne's I Am Still Music Tour will see the Grammy-winning rapper (real name Dwayne Michael Carter jnr) performing on African soil for the first time. It will also be Rick Ross' first live performance in Johannesburg.

Support act competition

Rick Ross rose from ruling Miami's underground rap scene, to become 2006's buzz-worthiest hip-hop artist with Port Of Miami, his No 1 Pop/R&B/Rap major label debut album. The single Hustlin’ reached sales of 1 million copies before the associated album had even been released.  Most recently he released his studio albums Deeper Than Rap and Teflon Don for the Maybach Music Group, a record label he founded.

Canoc Productions is also launching the Lil Wayne support act competition. This competition is two-fold by giving concertgoers the opportunity to design their own concert experience while at the same time creating a once in a lifetime opportunity for local musicians, DJs, dancers and bands to perform at one of the Lil Wayne concerts.

To stand a chance at being selected to perform at these concerts, artists need to create profiles on www.listenwithcare.co.za, and upload their content. The website goes live from November 23 and the competition ends on December 4.
