SA DJ nominated for international award

Cape Town - DJ Roxxi, or otherwise know as Deshnie Govender, has been nominated for the prestigious International DJ award.

DJ Roxxi, Africa's first Indian female DJ, was nominated in the category Best DJ - Africa for the newly launched Global Spin Awards (GSA's). The ceremony will take place on 19 November in New York.

She was the only female DJ from Africa to be nominated and will compete alongside other DJ's such as Ready D, Jimmy Jatt and Kode Red. Some other international nominees include David Guetta, Deadmau5, Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk and Skrillex.

The GSA's were created to recognize DJ's that would often be overlooked when it came to awards within the music buisness.

After Bad Boy executives and founder of Power Moves Inc Shawn Pez created the GSA's, he promised the awards would go out to recognise the world's most dynamic DJ's who have impacted diverse audiences around the world.

'Being nominated is a great honour'

DJ Roxxi has established herself firmly within the music scene after she broke through on the DJ scene almost five years ago. She has since then accomplished many firsts including her debut single alongside Nic Billington that reached number one on East Coast Radio.

This accomplishment made Roxxi the first female DJ in South Africa to hold a nuber one spot on commerical radio.

"Being nominated for the GSAs is a great honour - mainly also for Africa to be placed on the same platform as European, Asian and American DJs and producing talent," Roxxi said about being nominated for the award.

"The thing about this job is that you have to be in it for the right reasons. You need to put in the work and build yourself up but it's not just about what you get, you have to give too. You have to break out of your bubble and get in touch with people."
