Los Angeles - Scarlett Johansson has formed a girl band.

The Avengers actress - who has previously released two albums, Anywhere I Lay My Head and Break Up - has got together with a group of friends to form an all-female group.

She said: "I'm in the process of working on an all-girls band. We're called The One and Only Singles, we're kind of doing our go-go kinda thing."

Although she is best known for her acting, Scarlett recorded Anywhere I Lay My Head - a collection of Tom Waits covers - in 2006, and collaborated with Pete Yorn for Break Up in 2008, both of which were well received by critics.

'Very surprising to me'

Scarlett's track Chasing Ice from the soundtrack to Before My Time was also nominated for the Best Original Song trophy at Sunday's Oscars.

The 28- year-old unfortunately lost out on the award to Adele who won with for her James Bond theme, Skyfall, but she wasn't upset.

She told US TV's Live with Kelly and Michael Show: "It's funny because I never thought I would be nominated for an Oscar next to Adele. That was very surprising to me."

Explaining how she came to record the track for the climate change documentary, she added: "It's such a beautiful documentary. My friend Jay Ralph did all the music for it. He just called me up and we did a song for it.

“It was a beautiful song that he wrote, but I never could have imagined it'd be nominated for an Oscar."
