Shock over death of local muso

Cape Town - George Bacon, vocalist of the band Hog Hoggidy Hog, has died.

The cause and details surrounding George's death is still not known as his family have asked for privacy during this time. The band, who have confirmed the news via a spokesperson to Channel24, will only be releasing an official press release on Monday.

Friends and fans of George took to social media on Sunday to express their shock over his death.

"Such sad news. The passing of George from Hog Hoggidy Hog has left me struck with shock. #RIP George Bacon," @devcurrer wrote.

Local band Goodluck tweeted; "Huge loss for SA music! RIP George Bacon... Thanks for the music @HOGHOGGIDYHOG - our hearts are with you all! :("

The band on Friday kicked off their comeback tour in Cape Town with a performance at Assembly.

“The best South African underground legends have certainly returned for good this year with a few more tricks up their sleeves; all of which will be announced in the next couple of months,” a press statement for the band read last week.

According to his bio on the Hog's website George’s father is a minister and his mom is a teacher.

The bio further reads; "His first memory of wanting to be a singer was when his parents took him to meet Cliff Richard for the first time at the age of 3. Incidentally at this meeting young Bakes, as he is affectionately known in the band, was so eager to impress that he dressed up in his smartest clothes using the belt from his dressing gown as a tie.

"The one thing he remembers was how impressed Sir Cliff was with this tie and, well shortly after this encounter the skinny tie mysteriously became a major fashion trend."

George became a father earlier this year.
