Los Angeles – In a controversial move, YouTube announced that it will be removing videos of artists such as Adele, Arctic Monkeys and Radiohead from its site "in a matter of days", reports the BBC.
YouTube is launching a paid subscription service that will run alongside its existing service, and independent music labels are refusing to agree terms with the site.
YouTube has said it could remove videos from independent labels "in a matter of days" if they do not come to an agreement over new licences.
Major labels Sony, Universal and Warner are all on board but some smaller indie labels are holding out due to "highly unfavourable terms".
Indie labels are saying this move is a "grave error of commercial judgment" from YouTube’s side.
