Splashy Fen founder dies

Durban - Peter Ferraz, the man who founded the popular Splashy Fen musical festival, has died.

A message on the Splashy Fen website - www.splashyfen.co.za - announced that he had died on Tuesday night at his farm in Underberg, KwaZulu-Natal, where the festival has been an annual event for the past 25 years, drawing thousands of revellers and musicians.

Ferraz announced in April that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

According to the Splashy Fen website, earlier this month Ferraz said: "I am immensely proud of the festival, it has given me untold joy all these years and I foresee it continuing for many, many more. My heartfelt thanks go out to all the people who have made Splashy Fen what it is."

The Mercury newspaper reported on Tuesday that he is survived by his wife and four daughters.

He had a law degree, an arts degree, was a former journalist, and a trout farmer.

Splashy Fen started in 1990.
