Steve Hofmeyr departs for U2 on tractor

Cape Town - Singer Steve Hofmeyr and DJ Tim Thabethe have started their hitchhike to Cape Town on a tractor, and have already hit a roadblock on their second lift with Frikkie, a truck driver.

After his Bono-blasting saga, Steve Hofmeyr and a radio DJ from Ofm decided to hitchhike from Bloemfontein to Cape Town on Friday in an effort to raise money to combat farm murders.

Hofmeyr also wants to attend the U2 concert - if he can find a ticket.

Although everything didn’t go according to plan as he missed his flight to Bloemfontein early on Friday morning, Hofmeyr and Thabethe are on their way to Cape Town by begging for lifts.

At 11:00 Hofmeyr tweeted the following: "Frikkie is ons 2de lift. Die Boere van Trompsburg wag vir ons met donasies. TLU stuur beste wense. Biltong gekry!" (Frikkie is our second lift. The farmers from Trompsburg are waiting for us with donations. TLU sends best wishes. Got biltong!)

Hofmeyr tweeted this photo of Frikkie.

According to Hofmey’s latest tweet, they have hit a roadblock.

Hofmeyr and Thabethe left Bloemfontein on a tractor with a police and Harley Davidson escort and, according to Hofmeyr's tweets, their first lift was with "Hannelie and Marietjie".
