Johannesburg - For his latest music video, Blou Ballon Steve Hofmeyr enlisted not only his own offspring, but also his gardener and his new puppy.

Hofmeyer described the making of the video as "seriously fun". "Usually, it's hell to work with kids, but everyone was really great.

"The idea has been with me ever since I composed Blou Ballon. I wanted to include my sons again. They are so much older now. Everyone was very excited," he said.

His sons Sebastian, 9, and Benjamin, 7, appear in the video along with some other children.

Hofmeyr's six-week-old Daschund puppy, Havannah, along with his gardener of 16 years, Jim Masangu, also feature in the video.

Havannah will also be appearing in a forthcoming music video that Steve will be recording with Carike Keuzenkamp.

Hofmeyr says that the song Bou Ballon is very close to his heart. The idea for the song came to Hofmeyr at a Blue Bulls rugby match at Loftus in Pretoria. "A little girl in front of me let go of her blue helium balloon. She cried so bitterly and I started thinking of words to comfort her."
