Johannesburg - Afrikaans musician Steve Hofmeyr has released lyrics of his new song which include the k-word, The Times reported on Friday.
The song, Ons sal dit Oorleef (We will survive it), is dedicated to Eugene Terre'Blanche, leader of the right-wing Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging, who was killed, allegedly by two of his employees, a year ago.
Hofmeyr said on a blog on Thursday he would sing his "struggle song" outside courts at which the "murderers of our people and children" plead mitigating circumstances.
"My heart beats like a beetle, where it breaks for my people, before the khaki [British soldier in the Anglo-Boer War] cannon or the kaffir's dagger. It doesn't matter anymore where we find ourselves, we will survive it," reads a translated verse from the song.
Hofmeyr said he would sing the 'k' word in the song, to be released on his new CD, only if ANC Youth League president Julius Malema won his hate speech case against Afriforum in the High Court in Johannesburg.
"If Julius Malema is allowed to sing Shoot the Boer in public, we too will sing songs that have [the 'k' word]."
'Battle song'
Hofmeyr said on Facebook that the lyrics currently only show the word as k****r, Die Burger reported on Thursday.
"The stars will disappear if Julius Malema wins the Kill the Boer case. This will become the battle song that I plan to sing in front of courtrooms where others appeal for leniency for the murderers of our people and children."
Hofmeyr added that Ons sal dit Oorleef will appear on his new album.
Die Burger also reported that a spokesperson for EMI, Hofmeyr's record company, said that the company has never been in talks with Hofmeyr about the song or the use of the 'k' word.
"Consequently, we can give no other comment but to say that we are aware of our duty towards the public and our artists," the spokesperson added.
The song concludes with a quote from a prayer once said by the murdered AWB leader, Eugene Terre’Blanche.
The full lyrics to Ons sal dit Oorleef
My hart klop toktokkie waar hy breek vir my volk
Voor die Kakie-kanon of die k****r se dolk
Dit maak nie meer saak nie waar ons ons begeef
Ons sal dit oorleef...
Ek lig my oë tot die berge op
Waar sal my hulp tog vandaan kom
Ag my God jou woorde lê deur my geweef
Ons sal dit oorleef...
Ek staan vandag op jou plaas ou vriend
Daar hang stof oor die stilte so ver ek kan sien
Maar die geeste van gister sal môre herleef
Ons sal dit oorleef...
