Cape Town – Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr has admitted that his behaviour towards U2's lead singer Bono was a publicity stunt.
Hofmeyr did, however, say that he would do anything to focus attention on the deaths of Afrikaner boere (farmers).
Hofmeyr tweeted on Thursday: "Off course its a P Stunt. For a cause Ive sold my soul to.And Bono slipped up.Forget me.Check genocide.Thx.Im elated with his explanation."
According to EyeWitness News, he also said that in hindsight he does not regret the way he reacted, but does regret missing out on the U2 concert on Sunday night.
Hofmeyr set off a media storm after he tweeted that he had thrown his U2 tickets for the Johannesburg concert in the Jukskei River after it was reported that Bono showed support for the ANC Youth League president Julius Malema and the Shoot the Boer song.
Bono later said that it was "barking mad" for people to think that his band would support such a song.
