Taxi Violence release free download to celebrate 10 years of making music

Cape Town – Mother City rockers Taxi Violence released a new song on Thursday to celebrate 10 years of making music together.

And the best part? It can be downloaded for free! The single is called Beaten By The Gun and forms part of their fifth album, Tenfold, which will be released on 6 September.

You can download Beaten By The Gun here.

For those of you who don’t know the story behind Taxi Violence, here’s a bit on the band…

Once upon a time there were two high school rival bands: 508, to which Rian Zietsman, Louis Nel and Taxi Violence’s ex-bassist, Loedi van Reenen, belonged. George van der Spuy was the drummer for the other band, Drain.

In September 2004, they put their differences aside – no one could figure out which band spat on which band. George finally accepted Rian’s invitation to jam with them in a storage room at Wynberg Military Base in Cape Town. Taxi Violence was born.

Ten years later the band carves out a place for their sticky brand of rock ‘n roll, known as 'music for the waist down'. They are celebrated for their fierce independence, epitome-of-rock-‘n-roll sound, fiery live shows and integrity. Jason Ling joins Taxi Violence in 2008 as their new bassist.

They have released four albums: Untie Yourself (2006), The Turn (2009), Long Way from Home (2011), Soul Shake (2013).

They have played at all of South Africa’s major festivals, clubs and toured Germany and Holland – always in a class of their own delivering the same full-throttle show no matter the size of the crowd.

And now, they are back with a new album!

Tenfold will be launched on all the digital platforms and the band will be promoting the album with shows across South Africa during September and October. CDs will be sold at shows and online from their website.

Pre-orders are open for the limited edition pressing of Tenfold on vinyl and can be ordered at music@taxiviolence.com.  These babies go for R280.

The band will also be releasing the video for Beaten By The Gun next week, so watch this space!

Taxi Violence will kick off their national tour at The Assembly in Cape Town on Saturday, 6 September. For more info on their tour dates visit their Facebook page.
