Cape Town - Local musician Thandiswa Mazwai is looking for women instrumentalists to audition for her all new, all female band.

According to a press statement, the auditions will be held in Johannesburg and are an initiative aimed at changing the South African music landscape.

"This women's month, Thandiswa will take on the challenge of creating spaces and opportunities for female musicians, with the aim of slowly bringing about gender equality within the music industry," the statement said.

The statement added: "As women instrumentalists tend to be a marginalised category within the music industry, this initiative seeks to provide an opportunity for them to play and tour in a professional setting."

At the auditions prospective candidates will be expected to prepare 3 of Thandiswa's songs and 1 song of their own choice to show off their style and flair.

The Ibokhwe singer recently announced that she will be going overseas to perform on Paul Simon's 25th Graceland annivesary tour.

Prospective candidates can interact with Thandiswa via her Facebook page in the run up to the auditions.

Winners will be announced on 5 August.
