Cape Town – It’s been 5 years since the King of Pop’s passing and we decided to take this opportunity to highlight his amazing videos that changed the face of music television.
There is an argument for any/all of the white-glove-wearing one’s clips from his Jackson 5 days to the posthumous work that has recently hit the airwaves.
But, that being said, this is a totalitarian state not a democracy so we’re choosing the hits.
Here’s the list:
1) Smooth Criminal
An all white suit, a thrilling (sorry) plot AND THAT FAMOUS LEAN. This is the video that launched a million pop ships from Chris Brown to Pitbull.
2) Beat it
When you think gangster, good old Mike, doesn’t really spring to mind but this West Side Story inspired video music involves leather, heavy chains, stare downs and a beef between two rival dance factions. It’s pretty amazing.
3) Black Or White
Sure he didn’t grow up on Vilakazi street but Mr Jackson should have won a noble peace prize for the important race relations work this clip’s editing did. JK. But it is iconic. Shoutout to Macaulay Culkin we love your work.
4) Thriller
This video changed the game and made Michael Jackson a household name around the world. The signature dance has been referenced by the Backstreet Boys and everyone else who feels brave but no one does it better than Joe Jackson’s baby boy.
5) Remember the Time
This piece of art (we don’t say that lightly) features super model Iman, Eddie Murphy and basketball star Magic Johnson.
It’s more like a feature film than a music video and was the height of special effects in its day.
