Cape Town – SAMA award winning artist Toya Delazy released a new music video featuring hip hop rapper Cassper Nyovest.
The song, titled My City, is the second single off her sophomore album, Ascension.
"My City is a song that celebrates where we are from, those places that brought us up to be who we are today. I decided to collaborate with Cassper Nyovest as he is also very proud of where he is from and how he got to where he is now", the singer explains.
The music video is shot in black and white with the back drop playfully changing to different landscapes from all over South Africa.
And what city is Toya speaking of? Her hometown Durban of course. With nearly four years in the making Toya began writing the song in Durban in 2011, when things "were starting to happen in my career… I felt so grateful to have stepped outside my comfort zone and moved to the 'big city'.
"That's where it all started, I will never forget that," said the artist.
But no matter what city you’re from, the cool video with catchy lyrics and upbeat hip hop/pop sound is going to become an anthem for everyone around South Africa and even the world.
