Cape Town - Capetonians are livid about the proposed appearance by potty-mouthed rapper Jack Parow at the open-air festival K-day, according to Rapport.
The festival - advertised as one of the biggest of its kind in Cape Town - is scheduled to be held on March 19 by radio station 94.5 Kfm and Santam on the Val de Vie Estate outside Paarl.
However, after receiving an influx of complaints, Parow’s appearance at the family-orientated entertainment day is now being reconsidered.
The rapper himself doesn’t seem to mind the unfolding controversy. “Dis nie my kak nie – ek worry nie.” (It’s not my problem- I’m not worried.)
Listeners’ complaints
Kfm’s manager, Colleen Louw, has said that they are taking every complaint to heart.
“We are proud to provide content to a broad spectrum of listeners, whose values we respect.”
“K-day is just an extension of this philosophy; that’s why we’ll make sure these same values are reflected at the festival”
Other artists who will be taking to the stage include Arno Carstens, Prime Circle, Loyiso, Danny K, Flash Republic, La Vuvuzela, Good Luck, Chad Saaiman en Dr Victor and the Rasta Rebels.
Since the announcement of Parow’s involvement in the festival, 94.5 Kfm have been swamped by listeners’ complaints about his usual foul-mouthed onstage antics.
Listeners claim K-day is supposed to be a family day.
‘Clean version’
Kfm presenter, Lee Downs, mentioned on air on Wednesday, that 94.5 Kfm has asked the rapper to” tone down his performance”.
“You don’t have to be concerned about Jack at K-Day. It’s a family day, and all the artists understand it as such,” said Downs.
According to Parow, he performed at an event hosted by Highveld Stereo, where he treated the crowd to a “clean version” of his usual set.
“Yes, Kfm asked me to tone it down. I’m not going to swear on stage- unless I make a mistake. Let’s hope not.”
Parow’s filthy language also caused upsets in September last year, when Juanita Du Plessis allegedly claimed that she was uncomfortable sharing the stage with him at Huisgenoot’s Skouspel.
Her husband and manager, Doepie Du Plessis, voiced his concerns about Parow in an informal conversation with the show’s organisers.
Parow was later pulled from the programme.
