Cape Town – What this man can do with only a harmonica, his voice and a box of pedals is truly amazing!
Dave, who’s been playing extensively in and around Cape Town and beyond since the early 90s as well as a 12 year stint in the UK, is known for whipping up some funky grooves which you will be able to see when he performs at the Cape Town Folk & Acoustic Music Festival this Saturday, 30 August.
And making this interview even more special is the fact that Dave, being the nice guy that he is, answered our questions all the way from Italy! Thanks Dave! (Don’t worry though, he’ll be back in time for Saturday’s show…)
Check out our quickie with Dave below:
Channel24:
Have you played the Folk ‘n Acoustic music festival before? Are you looking forward to playing this year and why?
Dave:
No, this will my first time. Yes, I am looking forward especially because it'll be an interesting collaboration with the Blacksmiths, and a collaboration is a rare treat for someone who plays primarily solo, not to mention that Bluegrass is a genre that rests close to my soul.
Channel24:
The theme for the Folk Fest this year is ‘Collaborations’. Who are you collaborating with and what can people expect to hear?
Dave:
I guess I already answered this question above ;)... We will know what will come out only once we get together, but I hope that we will be able to channel the essence of Bluegrass' mixture of beauty and hardship coupled with the yearning of that "High Lonesome" sound.
Channel24:
If you could collaborate with any international artist in the world, who would it be?
Dave:
That list is long and growing every day. I've had the honour of collaborating with a few international artists in the past and each time has been a great experience. So I'll just continue to take whatever opportunity places before me.
Channel24:
What’s the one thing no one knows about you?
Dave:
The one thing that no one knows about me is still, thankfully, just that.
Channel24:
What’s next for you?
Dave:
The future...
