We had a quickie with Mother City rockers The Plastics

Cape Town – It’s almost time for Vodacom In The City and we got to chat to one of the finalists for the opening slot to this epic event.

Four local bands have been given the chance to share the spotlight on the Vodacom In The City stage on 3 October with international acts Rudimental, MGMT, Crystal Fighters and The Presets – and the public can choose who that band will be.

Cape Town based retro rock band The Plastics were nice enough to answer a few questions for us.

What is a Channel24 quickie? It’s a spontaneous episode consisting of five frisky questions in which celebs and Channel24 have a brief frolic leaving all parties involved feeling satisfied and craving a cigarette.

Check it out here:

Channel24:
In one sentence, convince us why you should be the opening act for Open The City?

Plastics:
Our new tunes will give you that excuse you need to shamelessly funk out, like you've always wished
you could, but never allowed yourself to for fear of judgement.

Channel24:
What is the one thing no one knows about the band?

Plastics:
We're huge cricket fans! We've made it our mission to try get to as many grounds as possible while on tour but only managed Supersport Park, Centurion other than Newlands.

Channel24:
We know the saying "what happens on tour stays on tour", but can you please share one of the strangest things that has ever happened to you guys while on tour?

Plastics:
Oh gosh. There's been some dark times... Um, just this weekend, amidst changing a punctured tyre, we lost Karl for a couple hours, and somehow we reunited at a random kwaito dance party in downtown Joburg.

Channel24:
Who would you like to collaborate with and why?

Plastics:
Hmm. A band like Tame Impala would be super rad to work with. Kevin Parker is a genius! Maybe you guys could sort that for us?

Channel24:
What’s next for you guys?

Plastics:
We've spent most of our year working on our new album, and we're now about half done with the recording of that.

Vodacom In The City is taking place on 3 October 2013 at the Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, Johannesburg.
