Cape Town - Five local bands have been given the chance to share the spotlight on the Vodacom In The City stage with international acts The Hives, Skunk Anansie, alt-J and Boys Noize – and the public can choose who that band will be.
Launching its "Open the City" competition, Vodacom called on local rock and indie bands across South Africa to enter for their chance to be the opening – and only – local act to perform at Vodacom In The City on 4 October 2013 at the Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown, Johannesburg.
After a tough judging process by a panel made up of Gary Cool (GaryCool.com & Rolling Stone), Catherine Grenfell (5FM), Stephan Potgieter (MK) and Shane Durrant (Desmond & The Tutus), the five finalists were announced: aKing, Al Bairre, Beatenberg, Monark and The Aztec Sapphire.
Public voting has opened and fans can also watch a promotional video for each band to help them decide on their vote.
To vote, SMS the keyword of your favourite band to 33459.
By voting, fans also stand a chance of winning one of 10 double VIP tickets to Vodacom In The City. SMS rates charged at R1.50 per SMS.
Tickets are available from Webtickets and cost R360 for general admission and R900 for VIP tickets.
