Zahara denies reports about finances

2012-04-16 11:35
Cape Town - Local music sensation Zahara on Monday denied claims made in the Sunday World newspaper that her record label, TS Records, is taking advantage of her.

The Sunday World alleged that Zahara's sister made the startling claims against record label bosses TK Nciza and Sbu Leope in an interview with them.

The newspaper reported that the Mkutukana family, especially Zahara's siblings Nomonde and Mbangedwa, claim a number of promises that were made to them by the record company have not been fulfilled.

They allege Zahara is being "treated with disdain" by her record company.

'Paper may write whatever'

Zahara's siblings also said that she is not in control of her finances, still stays in Nciza's home, where she is "treated like a servant", after being promised a house. It's also alleged that Zahara gets so desperate for money that she has to ask her 55-year-old mom for cash for airtime.

Zahara took to social networking site Twitter to refute the claims.

"Paper may write whatever they want but I know I have been a great kid in my family and TS too has been good to me and my family (sic)."

The singer added: "I know where I come from and never forget my parents I still love my family who ever is tryin to turn then against me it won't work."
Zahara, whose debut album Loliwe sold more than 300 000 copies, got another opportunity to tell her fans what is really going on when she went on the national radio station Umhlobo Wenene FM's breakfast show on Monday and told the host that all was above board.

"Everything is fine and the Nciza's are treating me very well. I am taking my time about things and will buy everything I need to buy when I am ready," she said.
