Zayn Malik signs to RCA Records with Simon Cowell's blessing

Los Angeles - Zayn Malik has signed to RCA Records.

The 22-year-old singer - who made a shock departure from chart-topping boy band One Direction earlier this year - has revealed he is ready to show people who he "really is".

In a message on Twitter, he captioned a photograph of him signing a record deal: "I guess I never explained why I left , it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who i really am! #realmusic #RCA !! ... #REALME (sic)".

Meanwhile, it was recently revealed Zayn had been dropped from Simon Cowell's Syco record label, which he was under throughout his time in One Direction.

A source said at the time: "It's a big move for Simon because Zayn could have a very successful solo career but his priority absolutely remains the band and this is a big statement on his part. Simon has set up a deal that suits Zayn and One Direction. Zayn will stay in the Sony family under a different label and it's totally with Simon Cowell's blessing.

"It was just felt to be a bit difficult to have 1D and Zayn on the same label - and everyone felt it was better for him to be somewhere different. Since leaving the band, Zayn has changed management and lawyers so it would kind of make sense for him to work with a new label team."

Simon Cowell later congratulated Zayn Malik on his new solo record deal with RCA.

The music mogul revealed he had "been working on this [deal] for a while" for the star.

On Wednesday Simon wrote: "We have been working on this for a while and I am pleased to say congratulations to @Zaynmalik on signing with @RCARecords,'' he wrote on Twitter (sic)."

The 55-year-old label boss went on to compliment the new partnership, as he feels ''they [RCA] are the perfect label for Zayn's solo career'' and ''whatever they release together will be special"

His next Twitter post read: "I believe they are the perfect label for @ZaynMalik's solo career and I am sure whatever they release together will be special(sic)."

Just before Simon had tweeted, Zayn posted a picture of him signing the deal, revealing how the new music will give him "the opportunity to show you who I really am", along with the hashtags ''realmusic(sic)'' and "REALME(sic)".

The 22-year-old has been busy spending time in the studio with a Grammy-award-winning producer on his new material in Los Angeles.
