Adele named Britain's richest ever female musician

Los Angeles - Adele has been named Britain's richest ever female musician.

The Hello hitmaker is worth a staggering £85m after adding a whopping £35m to her fortune this year, cementing her place at the top of The Sunday Times Rich List' 10 Richest Young Musicians in Britain and Ireland in 2016.

The mother-of-one - who made a triumphant return to music last year after a four year hiatus - was ranked in 30th place on the newspaper's Top 50 Music Millionaires in Britain and Ireland list, just behind DJ Calvin Harris, 27 - who is worth a huge £95m - and Enya, 28, whose fortune is listed as £95m.

And Adele, who placed 43 in last year's list, has rocketed up ahead of the likes of Sir Cliff Richard, Gary Barlow and Kylie Minogue.

Meanwhile, The Rolling Stones - Sir Mick Jagger (worth £235m), Keith Richards (£220m), Charlie Watts (£120m) and Ronnie Wood (£55m) - are the wealthiest band on the list with combined fortunes of £630m, up £40m on 2015.

Topping the rich list is Sir Paul McCartney, who with his wife Nancy Shevell, share a joint fortune of £760m - some £30m more than this time last year.

And among the rich list newcomers is David Bowie's widow Iman Abdulmajid and his filmmaker son, Duncan Jones, with their joint family fortune of £90m, based on the £70m inheritance plus their own wealth and royalties from Bowie's music after his death.
