Albert Frost lets us in on his holiday plans and what to expect from his Malkop festival set

Cape Town - After a hugely successful first Malkop Summer Rock Festival in 2015, the festival is back in 2016 in one of the country’s most beautiful regions.

With more than 24 of the best rock artists in the country (including the likes of Albert Frost, Francois van Coke, Koos Kombuis and many more), the festival is the perfect excuse to start your holiday season early this year.

With camping facilities available where you can camp at your car, the two day line-up of the Malkop Summer Rock Festival is the perfect weekend getaway where you can witness the masters of rock, blues and folk music in the beautiful surroundings of the West Coast.

We chat to Albert Frost ahead of the festival:

How are you and what have you been up to?

I am great thanks!  Last month I had quite a few gigs in Gauteng, so I did a lovely road trip to parts of our beautiful country. This is one of the advantages of being a musician - you get around! So I can combine business with pleasure.

Your new album has been out for a while now, what’s the response been like? Are there any plans for another album soon?

The response has been positive - I was nervous because it is a change from what I did, but people seem to like the different approach. Another album? Not right now, but one is always playing with ideas for the future.

You’ll be playing at Malkop Summer Rock Festival, what can people expect from your set?

The trio will be playing some Summer Rock tunes! Some old, some new - to an audience I have not played to for a while.  Might throw in a blues tune or two…

How do festivals today differ from back in the day?

There were fewer festivals, and fewer options regarding musicians from which to choose. So now the scope is enormous, and it has led to a wider variety of music presented which makes it accessible to more people.

What are you plans for the holidays?

I will be touring up the East Coast in the first half of the month. After Christmas my trio will be playing at the annual Boxing Day Blues Bash at Saronsberg Cellar in Tulbagh, my home town. This picnic concert will also feature my friends and family and my old band the Blues Broers, and the Robin Auld trio. Frosted Orange will make a special appearance. But the highlight is having my little girls come to spend Christmas with me!
